IV “Moderate” Sedation keeps you comfortable and calm during complex dental procedures. Though the idea of IV “Moderate” Sedation may sound frightening, it’s a standard procedure used by dentists worldwide. It’s a good option for patients with severe dental phobias, extremely long procedures or surgical procedures that may be uncomfortable.
This type of sedation is completely safe and allows us to have the ability to constantly adjust your level of sedation and comfort throughout the procedure. This helps ensure we provide maximum comfort during your visit. While side effects are possible, they are rare. Patients receiving Moderate Sedation will need to have a driver and caretaker when they arrive back at home.
General “Deep” Sedation is the deepest level of sedation provided in our office. It is very similar to Moderate Sedation in ways but includes additional medication to keep you more comfortable. There are often times that our patients receive a combination of both sedations. We ensure each patient is evaluated and treated individually as everyone responds differently to the medications given during the procedure.
During your procedure, you’ll be unconscious but will be able to respond if we need you to. We will be consistently monitoring and ensuring you are given the minimal dosage needed to perform the needed work. It is common for patients to not remember most of the what was completed during their visit. Patients will also wake up feeling tired, groggy and sometimes slightly confused. These effects wear off within hours but we still recommend 24 hours of rest.
